This is my ʻOhana. I was born and raised on the North shore of Oahu. Growing up, my family and I spent most of our free time at the beach surfing together. They raised my sister and I in the waves. They taught us everything they knew in and out of the water. I am forever grateful and so blessed to have them as my ʻOhana.
My ʻOhana has supported me in my passion for surfing since day one and it was surreal to be crowned the 1st woman PIPELINE champion 2x with my whole family by my side. I didn't win, WE won.
Prior to my surfing accomplishments, my family deeply influenced my academic endeavors. I am proud to say I am the first person to graduate from the University of Hawaii-West Oahu with the major of "Applied science in Hawaiian and indigenous health and healing".
A few years ago my sister gave me the idea that I should start a surf club. I decided that was a great idea! Since then I have found so much joy and love mentoring the next generation of surfer girls from my community. My club is built upon respect, being humble, Hawaiian culture and of course having fun!
Tehotu and I met in the ocean. A true Polynesian love story (I am sure our ancestors are proud). We met surfing. I was 18 years old at the time and was pulling into a barrel and he was looking right into it and our eyes locked for a mili second, it was love at first sight. My husband describes our relationship the perfect way "it is a never-ending barreling wave". Together we have overcome and accomplished so much. He pushed me to become the woman I am today. I have experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows with my husband and I wouldn't want it any other way. I couldn't ask for a better life partner.
We're all about that simple life. We love our family/friends, our home, our culture and our communities.
Our vision is to share the rich history of our homes, share the stories, and use our resources to benefit the next generation.
