Pupukea is where it all started for me. This is my birthplace, the home to my family the North shore of Oahu. My home is everything to me. This is what shaped me into the person I am today. All of my "first times ever" happened right here so I decided my first collection will be a tribute to the place that gave me all of my" first times ever".
Pupukea is a sacred place to native Hawaiians . It is home to one of the largest places of worship (HEIAU) looking over the world famous wave Waimea bay. ALI'I (chiefs) and KAHUNA NUI (high priest) are buried here. Pupukea is and always will be a place that demands respect.
This collection represents so much more than just colors. It represents the connection from Aina (land) to Kai (sea). It represents an ocean that connects each island. It represents a connection between the past and the present. It represents the ferns that grow in this mountain, the fish that endlessly swim through these waters, and the TIARE flower that represents the connection between Tahiti and Hawaii. After all I wouldn't be here if my ancestors didn't follow the stars from Tahiti all the way to Hawaii.
Pāreu/Pareo originated in French Polynesia, Tahiti. Although Pareo's are made and worn throughout Polynesia everyone knows the best to do it are the Tahitians.
In Polynesia you will see that the Pareo holds and represents so much more than a piece of cloth. It represents our culture and our home. From the colors to the designs they all tell a story. This is the clothing of Polynesia. Authentic Tahitian/ Hawaiian clothing
A pareo can be worn and used in many different ways. Wrapped or tied.
Whatever feels best for you!
At Moanalani, our vision is to show and share the beauties of home Tahiti and Hawaii. We strive to keep our products as authentic as possible. We are proud to say all our PAREU are sourced and substainably made in their birthplace of Tahiti.
We're committed to creating pieces that represent our beloved homes.
